Canada Road & Rail Transport - Shipper Responsibilities

Shippers of dangerous goods in Canada are responsible for ensuring the complete and proper execution of a variety of actions related to transport. To carry out this responsibility, the shipper must do the following:

  • Classify the good
  • Package, label, and mark the good in full conformance with the TDG Regulations
  • Placard the container for the good, if necessary
  • Document the shipment
  • Retain the documentation for the shipment
  • Provide to the carrier any needed permits and documents specific to the shipment
