Employer Responsibilities
Management must take many things into consideration when developing a Medical Surveillance Program, including the following:
- Site conditions
- The monitoring needs of each worker (based on the worker's medical and occupational history, as well as current and potential on-site exposures)
- The routine job tasks of each worker (for example, an employee who operates heavy machinery will most likely be exposed to higher-than-normal noise levels, and would therefore require a different monitoring protocol than an employee who works in, for instance, cleanup)
It is important that employers understand all aspects of the site, know of all expected employee tasks, and take careful consideration when developing a Medical Surveillance Program that takes these aspects of the site into consideration.
