Medical Surveillance Program
A medical surveillance program is a part of this written Safety and Health Program. 29 CFR 1910.120(b) details the requirement for a medical surveillance program to be incorporated into the written safety and health program.
A medical program should take into consideration the site's specific needs, its location, and all potential exposures of employees. It must have the following components:
- Surveillance (including pre-employment screening, periodic medical examinations and follow-up examinations when appropriate, and a termination examination)
- Treatment (including both emergency and non-emergency treatment (determined on a case-by-case basis)
- Record-keeping
- Program review
