Medical Test Analysis

Medical screening is an important clinical aspect of medical surveillance. As part of medical screening and surveillance, employees must undergo specific testing related to the hazards and chemicals on their site. Employers must consult the OSHA document Medical Screening and Surveillance Requirements in OSHA Standards: A Guide to specify the tests that must be completed.

Employers may select the specific clinical or diagnostic laboratory that will conduct the necessary medical test analysis. However, this laboratory must meet certain standards. OSHA notes that all medical test analyses must be done by a laboratory that "has demonstrated satisfactory performance in an established inter-laboratory testing program." The clinical or diagnostic laboratory should meet the minimum requirements under the Clinical Laboratories Improvement Act of 1967 (42 CFR Part 74 Subpart M Section 263[a]).
