Respirators - 29 CFR 1910.134

29 CFR 1910.134 details medical evaluation requirements as related to respirators. Because "using a respirator may place a physiological burden on employees that varies with the type of respirator worn, the job and workplace conditions in which the respirator is used, and the medical status of the employee," a medical evaluation must take place in order to ensure that an employee is able to wear (and work while using) a respirator. This evaluation must be ongoing and can be stopped only once the employee no longer has job duties requiring him or her to wear a respirator.
