Respirator Evaluation Procedures

There are specific medical evaluation procedures required for employees who must wear respirators. These are outlined in 29 CFR 1910.134.

According to this standard, the employer must "identify a physician or other licensed health care professional (PLHCP) to perform medical evaluations." The PLHCP must use the medical questionnaire "or an initial medical examination that obtains the same information as the medical questionnaire."

This medical evaluation mentioned in the standard is available in Part A of Appendix C of this standard. You will now learn about this questionnaire in detail.
