Physical properties are characteristics of a substance not related to its chemical composition. This can include some of the following characteristics:

- Melting point
- Boiling point
- Electrical conductivity
Chemical properties are the characteristics of a substance that allow it to change from one type of matter into another (or, the characteristic is that the substance does not change). This can include some of the following characteristics:
- Flammability
- Toxicity
- Reactivity
- Acidity
