Contamination Control Line

The boundary between the Support Zone and the CRZ is called the Contamination Control Line. This separates the low contamination area from the clean Support Zone. Remember: the personnel stationed in the CRZ are usually the Site Safety Officer, a Personnel Decontamination Station (PDS) Operator, and the emergency response personnel. Additional personnel may assist the PDS Operator by conducting abbreviated decontamination procedures for sample containers.

There are many required actions and policies for this zone:

  • When possible, access to the CRZ from the Support Zone occurs through two Access Control Points (one each for personnel and equipment).
  • Personnel entering the CRZ must wear the personal protective clothing and equipment required by the employer for those working in the CRZ.
  • When reentering the Support Zone, workers must remove all protective clothing and equipment worn in the CRZ and exit through the personnel exit Access Control Point.
