Employer Responsibilities
In this course, you learned that OSHA requires employers to provide a "workplace free from serious recognized hazards likely to cause death or serious physical harm." Employers have numerous responsibilities related to worksite and employee safety. Employers can ensure their workers' safety by complying with OSHA standards, rules, and regulations (including medical examinations and proper training) and regularly examining workplace conditions to ensure that they meet OSHA standards.
More specific employer responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Maintaining accurate OSHA posters
- Conducting medical surveillance for employees
- Properly keeping records of injury and illness
- Providing tools and services related to first aid
- Complying with OSHA inspections
- Providing employees with all legal rights
- Respecting whistleblower rights and following whistleblower programs
- Creating and maintaining a Hazard Communication Program
