Exceptions to Radiation Caution Signs and Labels

Caution signs are not required in the following circumstances:

• Where there is a sealed radiation source, provided the radiation level 12 inches from the surface of the source housing does not exceed 5 millirem per hour.
• At on-site medical facilities where patients contain radioactive material, or in areas containing radioactive materials for periods of less than eight hours, provided there are personnel in attendance to prevent the exposure of any individual to radiation in excess of authorized limits.
