Hazard Identification

A qualified person conducting site characterization will take into the account (and record) the following:

• The location and size of the site
• A description of activities employees will conduct once they enter the site
• The duration of planned activities while in the site
• The site topography

The qualified person must also do the following:

• Ensure that employees entering the site are aware of the expected safety and health hazards (based on knowledge of the site prior to entry)
• Ensure that employees entering the site are aware of possible pathways for hazardous substance dispersion
• Ensure that emergency response teams are adequately prepared (and equipped) for emergencies
