Hazard Identification
A qualified person conducting site characterization will take into the account (and record) the following:
- The location and size of the site
- A description of activities employees will conduct once they enter the site
- The duration of planned activities while in the site
- The site topography
The qualified person must also do the following:
- Ensure that employees entering the site are aware of the expected safety and health hazards (based on knowledge of the site prior to entry)
- Ensure that employees entering the site are aware of possible pathways for hazardous substance dispersion
- Ensure that emergency response teams are adequately prepared (and equipped) for emergencies
