Medical Surveillance Program - Laboratory Requirements

As part of medical screening and surveillance, employees must undergo specific testing related to the hazards and chemicals on their site. Employers must consult the OSHA document Medical Screening and Surveillance Requirements in OSHA Standards: A Guide to specify the tests that must be completed.

Employers may select the laboratory that will conduct the necessary medical test analysis. However, OSHA requires that all medical test analyses be done by a laboratory that meets the minimum requirements under the Clinical Laboratories Improvement Act of 1967 (42 CFR Part 74 Subpart M Section 263[a]).
