Powered Equipment Hazards
There are many types of powered equipment you may come into contact with. Each has the potential to become a hazard in the workplace. While OSHA does not go into detail in the HAZWOPER regulations regarding powered equipment hazards, they have standards of their own that must be followed. Some examples of powered equipment and their correlating standards include the following:
- Power tools: §1910 Subpart P, "Hand and portable powered tools"
- Machinery: §1910 Subpart P, "Hand and portable powered tools"
- Cranes, derricks, and rigging: §1910 Subpart N, "Materials handling and storage" and §1926 Subpart CC, "Cranes and derricks in construction"
- Forklifts: §1910.178(a), "Powered industrial trucks"
Different types of equipment have different regulations related to their operations and maintenance. You must be trained and educated on the equipment relevant to your job.
