Safety Data Sheets, Section 10
Section 10 of a Safety Data Sheet is titled "Stability and Reactivity." It describes chemical reactivity hazards and stability information.
This section includes three parts:
- Reactivity - This includes details on test data for the chemical(s).
- Chemical stability - This indicates if the chemical is "stable or unstable under normal ambient temperature and conditions while in storage and being handled;" describes any stabilizers that may be needed to maintain chemical stability; and indicates safety issues that may occur if the chemical undergoes physical change.
- Other - This may include the following:
- An indication of the possibility of hazardous reactions
- A description of the conditions under which hazardous reactions may occur
- A list of conditions to avoid (such as static discharge, shock, vibrations, or environmental factors that may lead to hazardous conditions)
- A list of all classes of incompatible materials (either classes of chemicals or specific substances) with which the chemical could react to produce a hazardous situation
- A list of any known or anticipated hazardous decomposition products that could be produced because of use, storage, or heating
Hazardous combustion products should also be included in Section 5 (Fire-Fighting Measures) of the SDS.
