Safety Data Sheets, Section 2

Section 2 of a Safety Data Sheet is titled "Hazard(s) Identification." It identifies the hazards of the chemical discussed in the SDS. It has several requirements:

  • The hazard classification of the chemical (for example, flammable liquid category)
  • A signal word (the word "danger" or "warning")
  • Hazard statements
  • Pictograms
  • Precautionary statements
  • A description of any hazards not otherwise classified under the classifications described in "Pictograms"

If the chemical discussed in the SDS is a mixture that contains any ingredients with unknown toxicity, the SDS must also include a statement that describes what percentage of the total mixture consists of the ingredient(s) with unknown acute toxicity.
