Safety Data Sheets, Section 9

Section 9 is titled "Physical and Chemical Properties." It describes the physical and chemical properties associated with the chemical substance or mixture.

This section includes the following information about the chemical:

  • Appearance (for example, the physical state or color)
  • Upper and lower flammability or explosive limits
  • Odor
  • Vapor pressure
  • Odor threshold
  • Vapor density
  • pH
  • Relative density
  • Melting point/freezing point
  • Solubility
  • Initial boiling point and boiling range
  • Flash point
  • Evaporation rate
  • Flammability (solid, gas)
  • Partition coefficient: n-octanol/water
  • Auto-ignition temperature
  • Decomposition temperature
  • Viscosity

This information might not always be available (or relevant) to all chemicals. Therefore, some SDSs might not include all the above-mentioned details. If this is the case, it is noted in the SDS.
