Since Safety Data Sheets are such an important aspect of the HCS and a written Hazard Communication Program, we will review these one final time.

Since Safety Data Sheets are such an important aspect of the HCS and a written Hazard Communication Program, we will review these one final time.

  • Identification of the chemical
  • Hazards of the chemical
  • Composition of the chemical
  • Safe handling practices for the chemical
  • Emergency control measures (for example, firefighting) of the chemical

This information is helpful to those that need to get the information quickly, such as first responders during an emergency.

Sections 9 through 16 contain additional technical and scientific information, including the following:

  • Physical and chemical properties of the chemical
  • Stability and reactivity information of the chemical
  • Toxicological information of the chemical
  • Exposure control information of the chemical
  • Other information, including the date of chemical preparation or last revision of the SDS

If the person preparing the SDS (the manufacturer or employer, depending on the situation) cannot find applicable information, this must be noted on the SDS.
