Site Control Program Components - Site Map

Before entering a site, employers should prepare a site map. A detailed site map will aid with the following:

  • Planning activities
  • Assigning personnel to specific tasks
  • Identifying access routes, evacuation routes, and problem areas

A site map should show all of the following when applicable to the site:

  • Topographic features
  • Prevailing wind direction
  • Drainage
  • Location of buildings, containers, impoundments, pits, ponds, and tanks

Employers should also update the site map throughout the time spent working on the site. Map updates should include the following:

  • Hazards not previously identified
  • New materials introduced on site
