Types of Drums

Drums are typically categorized in the following manner:

  • Drums with radioactive waste
  • Drums that might contain explosive or shock-sensitive wastes
  • Bulging drums
  • Drums containing packaged laboratory wastes (lab packs)
  • Leaking, open, or deteriorated drums
  • Buried drums

There are also "special drum types." These include the following drums:

  • Polyethylene or PVC-lined drums
  • Exotic metal drums
  • Single-walled drums (that are used as pressure vessels)
  • Laboratory packs
