HAZWOPER Codes - CFR
Laws created by agencies are called regulations. Each year, the United States publishes its Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). The CFR contains the rules and regulations for departments and agencies of the federal government. One such agency is the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Regulations usually must be authorized by a statute, and are subordinate to statutes. However, they have the same legal force as statutes. U.S. statutes are compiled in the United States Code, not the CFR.
The CFR has 50 sections, called titles, to represent 50 broad areas that the federal government regulates. Examples of these areas include agriculture, education, transportation, and wildlife and fisheries.
The CFR contains many regulations regarding hazardous waste and hazardous waste training.
An example of a regulation about hazardous waste is 29 CFR 1910.120, "Hazardous waste operations and emergency response." You will learn more about this regulation in Unit 3, OSHA Regulations.
