Published Exposure Level
The published exposure level (not to be confused with the permissible exposure limit, or PEL) is the exposure limit for employees to potentially hazardous materials. In 1986, NIOSH published a list of recommended exposure levels to hazardous materials.
If a particular hazardous substance is not listed in the 1986 NIOSH document, it may be included in the document titled "Threshold Limit Values and Biological Exposure Indices for 1987-88" from the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists.
