Required Training - Management & Supervisors

On-site managers and supervisors who are directly responsible for (or who supervise employees engaged in) hazardous waste operations must receive 40 hours of initial training and three days of supervised field experience.

OSHA regulations allow companies to reduce this training requirement from 40 hours to 24 hours and one day of training for the following types of management and supervisory workers:

  • Workers who are on-site for a specific limited task, as mentioned in the slide "Frequency of Training and Refresher Training (Infrequent Site Visitors)"
  • Workers who are regularly on-site, as mentioned in the slide, "Frequent Site Visitors"

The employee may also undergo at least eight additional hours of specialized training at the time of job assignment on various topics, such as the following:

  • The company's safety and health program or the company's associated employee training program
  • A personal protective equipment (PPE) program
  • A spill containment program
  • Health hazard monitoring procedures and techniques
