Solvents Environmental Concerns

Solvents enter the environment through emissions from the dry cleaning, gasoline, and metal degreasing industries. Through accidental spills, solvents are also released into the air, water, and soil.

When exposed to sunlight, solvents react and create smog, which is dangerous to humans, animals, and plant life. Once in the soil, chlorinated solvents break down at a slow rate; these solvents pollute groundwater and create a threat to ecosystems.
