Employer Responsibilities - Further Medical Screening Requirements
Employers must provide employees with medical examinations during normally scheduled work hours. Should the employee need to travel from the worksite for testing, the employer must cover the cost of transportation. However, the employer does not need to provide the transportation. Employers must compensate employees for the time they spend for their medical examinations. This includes travel time when the examinations are outside of normal work hours.
As part of medical screening, employees must also receive counseling about workplace risks by a physician and/or employer. They must also receive a medical removal plan, which removes an employee temporarily from a hazardous work environment based on specific criteria. You will learn more about these requirements and medical screening in the section titled "Medical Surveillance Program."
