Employer Responsibilities - Meeting OSHA Standards
OSHA requires that employers provide a "workplace free from serious recognized hazards likely to cause death or serious physical harm." Employers can ensure their workers' safety by following the OSHA regulations set forth in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), as follows:
- Complying with OSHA standards, rules, and regulations
- Regularly examining workplace conditions to ensure that they meet OSHA standards
- Providing medical examinations and training when required by OSHA standards
In this course, you will review some of the most important aspects of 29 CFR 1910 as they relate to hazardous waste operations. This unit cannot cover every detail of this intricate set of regulations. Should you ever have a question about an OSHA standard, remember that all OSHA standards are available in full online.
Remember: There are 28 OSHA-approved State Plans. State Plans must have requirements and enforcements that are at least as strict as OSHA's standards, but the state's standards may also be stricter. Employers must comply with State Plans where they are in effect. Consult your state's standards if your state has an OSHA-approved State Plan.
