Hazard Communication Program, Step 2
Step 2. Prepare and implement a written hazard communication program.
This is detailed in paragraph (e) of the HCS.
To complete this step, employers take the following actions:
- Prepare a written plan that details how the facility will address hazard communication.
- The written program must indicate how the employer will address the requirements of paragraphs (f) labels and other forms of warning; (g) safety data sheets; and (h) employee information and training.
- Prepare and maintain a list (also called an inventory) of all hazardous chemicals in the workplace. Using the product identifier (the product name, common name, or chemical name) to prepare the list will help track the status of SDSs and labels of a hazardous chemical.
- Note that the product identifier must be the same name that appears on the label and SDS of the hazardous chemical.
