Hazard Identification - Action Item 3
Action Item 3: Identify health hazards.
While identifying health hazards may seem simple, it can be quite complex: Some hazards, like gases, are invisible and therefore make detection difficult. For this reason, OSHA suggests the following categories of health hazards:
- Chemical hazards (solvents, adhesives, paints, toxic dusts)
- Physical hazards (noise, radiation, heat)
- Biological hazards (infectious diseases)
- Ergonomic risk factors (heavy lifting, repetitive motions, vibration)
Additionally, reviewing workers' medical records (redacted to ensure patient and worker privacy) can help management identify health hazards associated with workplace exposures.
