HMIS - White Bar
The white bar at the bottom of the HMIS label indicates the level of personal protection needed. This is unique to this labeling system. The letter classes indicated on the HMIS label do NOT match with those put out by OSHA. Please be aware when reading an HMIS label that you need to consult their specific PPE chart to determine appropriate PPE for the chemicals being encountered. In this section, there is also a set of custom codes. In the instance that you see an "X" in the PPE category, see a supervisor for specific instructions regarding the handling of these hazardous materials.
