Action Item 1: Communicate your commitment to a safety and health program.

Management can do this through the following actions:

• Having a clearly written policy that communicates the idea that safety and health are just as important as other aspects of the business, such as productivity, customer satisfaction, product quality, and efficiency
• Having top management sign this written policy
• Communicating this policy to all workers and partners, including (but not limited to) contractors, visitors, subcontractors, suppliers, vendors, staffing agencies, and temporary workers
• Considering safety and health in regard to business decisions, including the selection of vendors, purchasing, and design of facilities
• Making this commitment an essential part of business correspondence (for example, begin work meetings with safety discussions)
