OSHA Federal Government Workers

Section 19 of the OSH Act states that OSHA protection extends to all federal agencies. According to OSHA, federal agencies "must have a safety and health program that meets the same standards as private employers.

However, OSHA does not fine federal agencies that do not comply with or have a safety and health program. Instead, OSHA has the following responsibilities:

  • Monitoring these agencies
  • Conducting federal workplace inspections in response to workers' complaints

Therefore, federal workers have the same rights as private sector workers when it comes to workplace safety.
