Safety Data Sheets - Section 13

Section 13, titled "Disposal Considerations," is optional or non-mandatory, according to OSHA. In order to minimize exposure risks, this section should also refer back to Section 8 of the SDS, which details exposure controls and personal protection. When Section 13 is included in the SDS, it may provide the following information:

• Proper practices for disposal of the chemical
• Recycling the chemical
• Reclamation of the chemical or its container
• Safe handling practices
• Descriptions of the appropriate disposal containers to use
• Recommendations for proper disposal methods
• Descriptions of physical and chemical properties that might possibly affect disposal activities
• Language to deter sewage disposal (to ensure employees understand the dangers to the environment)
• Special precautions for landfills or incineration activities
