Safety Data Sheets - Section 14

Section 14, titled "Transport Information," is optional, according to OSHA. However, when this section is included in an SDS, it provides information on classifying chemicals for transportation (shipping) by road, rail, air, and sea.

This section of the SDS may include the following information (which you learned about in detail in Unit II of the course):

  • The United Nations (UN) number
  • The UN proper shipping name
  • Transport hazard class (or classes)
  • Packing group number (if applicable) based on the degree of hazard
  • Environmental hazards
  • Information about transportation of the chemical in bulk
  • Any special precautions employee should know of or comply with, including information about transport or carrying of products on the workplace premises or outside of it
