Safety and Health Training Program - Skilled Personnel

Skilled support personnel may include (but are not limited to) the following employees:

  • Employees who work for public works departments
  • Equipment operators such as those who operate bulldozers, sand trucks, backhoes, and similar equipment

These individuals may be called to the incident scene to provide emergency support assistance. Therefore, they should have, at minimum, a safety and health briefing before they enter the area of potential or actual exposure.

Skilled support personnel are not a part of the emergency response plan, which means they do not meet the training requirements. Therefore, they "should be made aware of the hazards they face and should be provided all necessary protective clothing and equipment required for their tasks."
