Examples of Lockout/Tagout Materials and Hardware
A lockout/tagout device storage board is used to visually identify lockout/tagout devices currently in use. Lockout/tagout devices are arranged on the board so workers can quickly identify that an item is in use or needs to be returned to its designated storage location.
A gate valve lockout device blocks access to valves on pipes so that they cannot be turned on accidentally during maintenance.
Locks and tags for electrical panels keep the panel door locked and prevent the panel cover from being removed. Circuit breakers remain locked while work is being done.
A pneumatic energy isolation device physically prevents the transmission or release of energy. Some pneumatic isolation devices automatically vent air pressure when lockout occurs, while others require manual venting.
A cord and plug lockout device surrounds an electrical plug and is used in combination with a padlock to help protect against the plug being accidentally connected during the maintenance and repair activities.
A gang lockout device is a hasp and cable combo that can be used as an electrical or valve lockout and accepts multiple padlocks. It is used by feeding the cable through whatever needs to be locked out and back through the lockout body, cinching it tight, and applying the locks.
A plug lockout device has a hollow shell that surrounds an electrical plug and is used in combination with a padlock to help protect against the plug being accidentally connected during the maintenance and repair activities.
