Fall Hazard

Because electrical shock can cause involuntary muscle reactions, it can also cause secondary accidents. For example, if a worker is on a ladder when he or she receives a shock, the worker may be thrown off the ladder due to the contracting of his or her muscles. The fall may cause a danger of its own.

Falling is a major cause of worker fatalities. The severity of injury resulting from a fall can depend on the height from which the person falls, what the person may hit during the fall, and the kind of surface the person lands on.

When working at a height, it is important to take precautions against both electrical shock and the fall that a shock may cause.
