Motor Vehicle Hazards
A transportation system must be designed to account for the layout, the work being done, and the types of equipment used. The most common reported motor vehicle hazard is a rollover. Rollovers are particularly dangerous at a hazardous waste site, as often the load being carried is flammable or toxic.
Other motor vehicle hazards include the following:
- Objects protruding from the sides or back of the vehicle
- Equipment and people falling out of or off moving equipment due to reckless driving, bumps, or quick stops
- Injury to head, arms, or legs that hang out of the transport vehicle
- Flying objects, which are ejected when the vehicle stops suddenly, derails, or is involved in a collision
- Trip collision due to excessive speed, loss of control, or brake failure
- Eye or lung injury from dust or small particles
