Site Control Program - Contamination Reduction Zone
The Contamination Reduction Zone (CRZ) is the area of transition between the contaminated area and the clean area. This zone's purpose is to decrease the potential of contamination of the clean Support Zone. This occurs thanks to the distance between the Exclusion and Support Zones (which the CRZ provides) and the decontamination efforts of workers and equipment.
Between the CRZ and the Exclusion Zone is the Hotline. Decontamination begins here and occurs in an area in the CRZ called the Contamination Reduction Corridor (CRC). OSHA notes that there should be a minimum of two lines of decontamination stations in the Contamination Reduction Corridor (more than two if the site is large). One decontamination station is for personnel, and one is for heavy equipment.
Personnel and equipment can access and exit the CRZ from the Exclusion Zone through Access Control Points. When possible, there are several - one entrance each for personnel and equipment, and one exit each for personnel and equipment.
