Site Control Program - Exclusion Zone

The Exclusion Zone is where contamination occurs or could occur. Typically, within an Exclusion Zone the following activities take place:

  • Site characterization (mapping, photographing, and sampling)
  • Installation of wells for groundwater monitoring
  • Cleanup work (drum movement, drum staging, and materials bulking)

Personnel working in the Exclusion Zone may include the Field Team Leader, work parties, and specialized personnel (like heavy equipment operators).

Note that all personnel within the Exclusion Zone should wear the level of protection required by the Site Safety Plan. The zone may require varying levels of protection based on the degree of hazard presented and on the tasks of the worker. Employers must specify the level of personal protection required in each subarea and for each worker.
