Site Control Program - SOPs/Safe Work Practices (Paperwork and Display)
The site should have a list of standing orders (also called safe work practices or SOPs) that include all required practices and the tasks that must never occur on site-contaminated areas. When hazards are different for each zone, there should be separate standing orders for the Contamination Reduction Zone and the Exclusion Zone.
To be sure that everyone entering the site follows orders, employers should ensure that the following requirements are completed:
- Everyone who enters the site receives the list.
- Managers post the list conspicuously at the Command Post.
- Managers post the list conspicuously at the entrance Access Control Points into the Contamination Reduction Zone and/or the Exclusion Zone.
- The Field Team Leader or Project Team Leader reviews the list with the field crew at the beginning of each workday. Daily safety meetings should be held for all employees. (This ensures that personnel know of any new standing orders due to a change in site conditions or work activities.)
In addition to the standing orders, the site must also have a hazardous substance information form. This form lists the names and properties of chemicals present on site. It is posted conspicuously. Management should inform employees of this chemical information at the beginning of the project or whenever they first join the work team.
