Site Control Program
A large component of site control is the site control program. A site control program, as defined by 29 CFR 1910.120(d)(3), includes the following elements:
- Site map
- Site work zones
- Use of a "buddy system"
- Site communications, including means for alerting emergencies
- Standard operating procedures (SOPs) or safe work practices
- Identification of the nearest medical assistance
20 CFR 1910.120(d)(2) notes the following stipulations regarding a site control program:
- If these requirements are covered elsewhere, they need not be repeated.
- A site control program for protecting employees is part of the employer's required site safety and health program.
- A site control program must be developed during the planning stages of a hazardous waste clean-up operation and modified as necessary as new information becomes available.
