Slips
Slips happen where there is too little friction or traction between the footwear and the walking surface. Without enough friction, it is easy for the feet to slip too far out from under the body's center of balance. This results in a loss of balance and a possible fall. Common causes of slips include the following:
- Wet or oily surfaces
- Occasional spills
- Weather hazards
- Loose, unanchored rugs or mats
- Flooring or other walking surfaces that do not have same degree of traction in all areas
