ANSI z87.1-1989 (R-1998)

ANSI standard z87.1-1989 (R-1998) is another outdated standard that OSHA references as an option for employers to meet face and eye protection standards.

In 2016, OSHA updated its standard 29 CFR 1910.133, which referenced ANSI standard z87.1-1989 (R-1998). 29 CFR 1910.133 still references z87.1-1989 (R-1998), but is also updated to reference the more recent ANSI/ISEA z87.1-2010. (Rememberthat OSHA references standard ANSI/ISEA z87.1-2010, which is not the most current standard. Employers should instead consult ANSI/ISEA z87.1-2015.)

Employers may still see references to ANSI standard z87.1-1989 (R-1998) in outdated materials but should reference the most up-to-date materials whenever possible.
