Hand and Arm Protection - Checklists for Training Employees

To ensure that employees are properly trained to use and care for hand and arm protection, OSHA provides a checklist. Employers should be sure that employees know the following:

  • The need for hand and arm protection (due to the workplace hazards that threaten their hands and arms)
  • How gloves and sleeves will help protect against hazards
  • The limitations of the protective equipment
  • When they must wear the gloves and sleeves
  • How to properly put on the gloves and sleeves
  • How to ensure a comfortable and effective fit
  • How to identify signs of wear, such as:
    • Cracks, scrapes, or lacerations
    • Thinning or discoloration
    • Break through to the skin
  • How to clean and disinfect the non-disposable protective gloves and sleeves
