Hand and Arm Protection - Checklists for Training Employees
To ensure that employees are properly trained to use and care for hand and arm protection, OSHA provides a checklist. Employers should be sure that employees know the following:
- The need for hand and arm protection (due to the workplace hazards that threaten their hands and arms)
- How gloves and sleeves will help protect against hazards
- The limitations of the protective equipment
- When they must wear the gloves and sleeves
- How to properly put on the gloves and sleeves
- How to ensure a comfortable and effective fit
- How to identify signs of wear, such as:
- Cracks, scrapes, or lacerations
- Thinning or discoloration
- Break through to the skin
- How to clean and disinfect the non-disposable protective gloves and sleeves
