Levels of Personal Protection - Level B
Level B PPE is a "non-gas-tight encapsulating suit." As with Level A PPE, Level B PPE is required when working in environments that are IDLH. However, Level B PPE is for workplace situations in which substances cannot be absorbed by the skin (or are not hazardous to the skin upon contact).
According to OSHA, the following are Level B equipment and should be used in situations deemed to be in need of Level B equipment:
- Positive pressure, full-face-piece self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), or positive pressure supplied air respirator with escape SCBA (NIOSH approved)
- Hooded chemical-resistant clothing (overalls and long-sleeved jacket, coveralls, one or two-piece chemical-splash suit, disposable chemical-resistant overalls)
- Coveralls
- Gloves, outer, chemical-resistant
- Gloves, inner, chemical-resistant
- Boots, outer, chemical-resistant steel toe and shank
- Boot-covers, outer, chemical-resistant (disposable)
- Hard hat
- Face shield
