Levels of Personal Protection - Level C
Level C PPE is needed in the following situations:
- When any environmental contaminants, liquid splashes, or other chemicals that may come into contact with the skin do not pose a risk upon contact
- When identified air contaminant concentrations have been measured and an air purifying respirator that can remove these contaminants is readily available
- When the area meets other criteria for the use of air-purifying respirators
According to OSHA, the following are Level C equipment and should be used in situations deemed to be in need of Level C equipment:
- Full-face or half-mask, air purifying respirators (NIOSH approved)
- Hooded chemical-resistant clothing (overalls, two-piece chemical-splash suit, disposable chemical-resistant overalls)
- Coveralls
- Gloves, outer, chemical-resistant
- Gloves, inner, chemical-resistant
- Boots (outer), chemical-resistant steel toe and shank
- Boot-covers, outer, chemical-resistant (disposable)
- Hard hat
- Escape mask
- Face shield
