PPE - Emergency Response & Recovery Workers (Additional Options)
PPE is not limited to the gear listed in the table on Appendix B of the Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) standard (29 CFR 1910.120). Other types of PPE may include (but is not limited to) the following:
- Eye protection
- Hearing protection
- Fall and falling object protection
- High visibility clothing
- U.S. Coast Guard-approved personal flotation devices
- Respiratory protection (detailed in a later section)
To ensure the proper selection of PPE in specific situations (chemical, biological, radiological, electrical, and physical hazards), employers should consult the following resources:
- OSHA's Safety and Health Topic page on Personal Protective Equipment
- OSHA's Safety and Health Topics web pages
OSHA's webpage about Emergency Response PPE also notes that employers should be familiar with other organizations setting standards for PPE and specifically lists the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
