Proper PPE Selection
Many factors contribute to proper PPE selection, including the following:
- An overall hazard assessment to determine the hazards that are present
- Application of work controls (which you will learn about in detail) that eliminate the need for PPE by eradication of hazards through other means
- Selection of appropriate PPE to withstand all present and foreseen hazards
- Selection of PPE that is not defective or damaged (as stated in 29 CFR 1910.132(e))
- Proper training for all employees who require PPE
