Respiratory Protection - Air-Purifying Respirator

An air-purifying respirator (APR) has "filters, cartridges, or canisters that remove contaminants from the air." They pass the air on the work site through the air-purifying element, and then provide it to the user through a hose.

APRs provide clean air for long periods of time. They are lightweight, which makes them easier to use than heavier respirators. They are typically for situations with extended work periods in atmospheres which are not immediately dangerous to life and health (IDLH).

APRs are also referred to as airline respirators.
