Toilets for Employees - Urinals

Urinals must be provided at temporary work sites (labor camps). The requirements, as detailed in 29 CFR 1910.142(d)(6), are as follows:

  • For each 25 men, employers must provide one unit or two linear feet of urinal trough.
  • The floor area from the wall (and for a distance not less than 15 inches measured from the outward edge of the urinals) must be made from materials that are "impervious to moisture." (The standard does not provide a definition or examples of materials that are impervious to moisture.)
  • When water under pressure is available, urinals must have an "adequate water flush." (OSHA does not define adequate water flush in this standard.)
  • In privies, urinal troughs must drain freely into the pit or vault.
  • In privies, the drain must be made in a way that "excludes flies and rodents from the pit."
