Toilets for Employees
29 CFR 1910.142(d) details the toilets that must be used in work sites.
This standard uses different terms for toilets, but does not define these terms. However, 29 CFR 1910.141 (Sanitation) does define these terms. Here are some of the definitions for terms used in this section:
- Toilet facility is "a fixture maintained within a toilet room for the purpose of defecation or urination, or both."
- Toilet room is "a room maintained within or on the premises of any place of employment, containing toilet facilities for use by employees."
- Urinal is "a toilet facility maintained within a toilet room for the sole purpose of urination."
- Water closet is "a toilet facility maintained within a toilet room for the purpose of both defecation and urination and which is flushed with water."
29 CFR 1910.142 also uses the word privy, which 29 CFR 1910.141 (Sanitation) does not define. Privy is typically used to describe a toilet that is outside.
